Academic Affairs and Study Plans Committee
The committee encourages excellence in the mechanical engineering program. The committee supports regular curriculum updates that take into account enduring principles, developing fields and applications, relevance to current practice, student interests, and the range of instructional tools. Undergraduate course development and revision are overseen by the committee in order to facilitate the Department's evaluation of program outcomes and educational goals, to ensure that the necessary material is presented at the proper level and in a pedagogically sound manner. Whenever possible, the committee arranges for outstanding and qualified Academic Council members to teach certain courses. In light of degree requirements, prerequisite chains, student interests, and research program requirements, the committee makes sure that courses are provided frequently enough. Moreover, the committee collaborates with the college's academic advising unit and the university's deanship of academic advising to ensure that students receive the proper academic assistance. Responsibilities of the committee, supervisors and members
Different committee responsibilities fall within the purview of various supervisors and members. However, the committee must produce the following items on the agenda:
1.Putting together data on the number of students enrolled in the current semester and the anticipated enrollment for the following semester.
2.Establishing the semester's academic program, assigning classrooms to each class, and selecting instructors for each subject.
3.Authorizing new courses, suggesting curriculum modifications, and modernizing the curriculum.
4.planning for the undergraduate program in cooperation with the curriculum committees of the university and the college
5.Supporting faculty growth through protocols, procedures, and activities related to junior faculty mentorship.
6.Acquainting students with the objectives and purposes of the college, its academic offerings, its scientific divisions, the industries in which its graduates find employment, and the care and support services it offers to its students.
Academic Affairs Supervisor Responsibilities
- Setting the academic schedule for the semester, allocating classrooms to
each class, and choosing professors for each subject.
- Supervising orientation programs for new students to introduce the program's
study and examination system.
- Examine the student instances including registration and final exams and
come up with any appropriate remedies.
- Adjusting the program as registration progresses to address any
immediate registration issues.
- Participate in the development the academic advising plan in the
department.
- Establishing the department's faculty members' academic tasks
Study plan Supervisor Responsibilities
- Preparing and publishing the study plans for the department’s programs
in coordination with faculty members and in line with the college’s strategic
plan
- Follow-up and evaluation of the department's study plans
- Cooperation with the Department's Quality and planning Committee to
update and develop the study plans for the department's programs.
- Coordination with information technology in developing plans and
descriptions on the college's website.
- Inventory of books needed by faculty members, and coordination with the
college library to provide books and references in proportion to the
department's needs.
- Establishing the appropriate organization for the files of the committee
(its activities - circulars - study plans - course contents ...), to ensure
speed and ease of access to them when needed.
Academic Advising Supervisor Responsibilities
- Supervising the implementation of the academic guidance plan.
- Spreading awareness among students about the academic advising, its
importance, and how to benefit from its services, through meetings, and the
college's website.
- Introducing students to the college’s goals and mission, its educational
programs, its scientific departments, the fields of work of its graduates, and
the aspects of care and services it provides to its students. They are also
enlightened and guided to choose the appropriate specializations that suit
their abilities and capabilities.
- Distribute the new students to the academic supervisors and publish the
lists on the pages of faculty members and students.
- Studying the cases referred to it by the college administration and
preparing reports about them to be submitted to the competent authorities.
- Considering the academic difficulties of the students that are raised by
the counselors and devising suitable solutions or submitting them to the
college administration if necessary.
- To submit periodically a report about the academic advising in the
department, as well as a report on the levels of students to the college
administration.
In order to effectively carry out the committee's functions, the other members of the Academic Affairs and Study Plans Committee team up with the supervisors.
