    Academic advisor duties 

    • Familiarity with the dates and rules of registration, deletion, and addition announced by the Approval of Deanship of Admissions and Registration.
    • Know the college's study plan and graduation requirements for students and make sure that the student schedule is approved with the college's study plan.
    • Preparing and updating the academic guidance record file for each student where the guide opens a special file for each student of the group including the subjects recorded and the level of the student's grades, including the cumulative rate as well as the minutes of periodic meetings between the guide and the student in addition to any reports or warnings through which the student level can be assessed.
    • Organize regular interviews (at least three times during each semester) with each of the students he supervises in order to:

    1.      Learn about the performance of students in the past semester.

    2.      Encourage the student to work hard and praise him if he is distinguished in some courses.

    3.      Discuss the difficulties, if any, and find the appropriate solutions.

    4.      Discuss the appropriate options for the student in the next semester (register or delete courses, increase the GPA, choose another specialty  etc..).

    5.      Providing assistance to the student in the event of difficulty in registration or clashing some subjects.

    6.      Follow-up the student's academic achievement in the registered subjects, writing periodic reports and attaching them to the student's file.

    7.      Addressing faculty members if the student level is low.

    • If the student does not attend or has a poor achievement level, the guide intensifies periodic meetings and discusses the student accurately about the reasons and tries to solve them or raise them to the Academic Guidance Unit.
    • In the event of the student's non-attendance or poor achievement level, the advisor intensifies the periodic meetings and discusses with about the reasons and tries to solve them oriented them to the Academic Advising Unit.
    • Discovering and developing students' talents.
    • Encouraging students to participate in academic and extracurricular activities
    • It is preferable not to change the advisor for the student since joining the college until his graduation
    • The dean of the college or his representative does not sign a certificate of good conduct and behavior until after a letter he receives from the academic advisor.
    • It is necessary to build an academic friendship between the academic advisor and the student to encourage him to attend and benefit from the counseling.
    • It is preferable to be the role of the mentor as a social and career advisor to the student to know his social conditions, help stabilize them or the future of the student's career and contribute to opening up job prospects for him, training or pursuing postgraduate studies.

    • Allocating guidance hours to meet the students in his office to discuss the problems during the study.
    • Introducing students to the college's objectives and mission, educational programs, scientific departments, areas of work of its graduates, and the care and services it provides to its students, and they are informed and guided to choose the appropriate specialties that suit their abilities and capabilities.
    • Submitting a periodic report on students' performance to the Academic Advising and Support Unit (before the end of the semester).

    • Submit a report on problems that need the intervention of the unit or the college administration.
    • Urge and encourage students to take advantage of the digital library on the university's website and manage time effectively.
    • Encourage students to study as groups and benefit from each other.

      Responsibility of Students

      • Students should have full responsibility for their academic performance while academic advising is a method to assist them.
      • Students should usually see the college manual, student guidebook, and the college’s website to get updated with the requirements of the program, college, and university.
      • They should follow the details of the academic calendar and timetables for enrolment, withdrawal, admission, and exams.
      • Knowing his academic advisor and office hours of his advisor.
      • Meeting regularly with their academic advisor for consulting on academic problems or duties, the program and study plan, and inquiring about all aspects in which he finds ambiguity.
      • Students should obey the recommendations of the advisors and attend single and group meetings.
      • Declare to the advisor of any changes that may affect his study plan or academic performance.
      • Asking for help from the academic advisor when an emergency problem occurs.
      • The student should know the official means of communication with his advisor such as email address, office number and office site in the college.
      • Students should not overpass the academic advisor by going directly to the college administration.
